#InvoiceOctober: Everything you need to know about mandatory e-invoicing
The electronic invoice is here to stay. It has been mandatory for companies in Germany since 2025, and the digitalization of invoicing processes is also progressing in Austria and Switzerland.
But what does this mean in concrete terms? What opportunities does the changeover offer? And how can e-invoicing be implemented efficiently with SAP Business One? In this article, we show you how to optimally prepare your company and why an early switchover is worthwhile.
What is an e-bill?
An electronic invoice is much more than a PDF file sent by email.
It consists of structured, machine-readable data (e.g. in XML format) that can be processed automatically.
- Structured data enables seamless, automated further processing.
- Transmission takes place electronically, without media discontinuity.
- Authenticity of origin and integrity of the contents are guaranteed.
The current common formats are XRechnung and ZUGFeRD – both fulfill the legal requirements for B2G and B2B invoices.
